I dunno if you'd call this a bald-faced lie...

...but it's not that far off...

"There's no question that the vast majority of weapons," including assault rifles, are coming from Texas and other border states, Holder told reporters. “This is the reality we have to face in the United States."
There's just one problem with that...it's not true (h/t Bob S. in comments here):
...The fact is, only 17 percent of guns found at Mexican crime scenes have been traced to the U.S.
What's true, an ATF spokeswoman told FOXNews.com, in a clarification of the statistic used by her own agency's assistant director, "is that over 90 percent of the traced firearms originate from the U.S."
But a large percentage of the guns recovered in Mexico do not get sent back to the U.S. for tracing, because it is obvious from their markings that they do not come from the U.S.
The Fox story goes on to detail, of course, what the bloggers have been saying for a while, namely that the vast majority of the weapons in the hands of the cartels are coming from somewhere else besides American gun stores and gun shows. I do wonder why it is that Fox News is the only one pointing all this out. Something to ponder...and wasn't it funny that professional prevaricator Tom Diaz insisted on more gun control by saying "let's do what we can with what we know" and proceeded to blame the flow of weapons on the American gun laws but didn't say a word about something else we know that's a much bigger part of the problem, namely that the borders are wide-open? I know why he didn't -- because that has precisely jack to do with his organization's agenda -- but it makes him look like the desperate fool we in the gun community knew he was all along. Which, on second thought, isn't a bad thing at all...
